About Us

Who we are as a company has everything to do with our family’s history, where it all began, and who paved the way for Volunteer Properties to be one of the premiere property management companies in Middle Tennessee.

Our family’s history in this industry goes back to 1951 when our grandfather Randall Phillips started Phillips Builders, a local construction company. Randall’s sons Randy and Eddie became partners of the company and helped establish the company’s foothold in Nashville’s building industry. In 1986, the company was sold to Beazer Homes.

Volunteer Properties Gets Its Start

Randy Phillips, together with his brother Eddie, sister Kathy, and father Randall built several apartment complexes during the late 1970’s and into the early 1980’s, before purchasing two properties in the 1990’s. Randy began managing the properties, which remained owned by the family today – Piccadilly Apartments, Concord Village Apartments, Nottingham Apartments, and South Brook Apartments.

In 1992, Randy started Volunteer Properties, a property management company located in Goodlettsville, TN, just outside of Nashville. Over the years, Volunteer Properties expanded and has become entrenched in the Middle Tennessee community, becoming a proud member of several associations while sponsoring many local events and functions.

Randy’s daughter Jessie Phillips began to take an interest in property management and took a role with the company as a leasing agent for Piccadilly Apartments. After several years there, Jessie moved into an Assistant Manager position at Nottingham Apartments before returning to Piccadilly Apartments as the Community Manager.

In 2014, Jessie became the company’s President upon the former President’s departure, worked directly under her father and gaining the management experience that she would one day need to lead the company.

Today

Jessie benefited greatly by working directly with Randy for two years, learning the ins and outs of the business before her father stepping down to focus his energy to care for his ailing wife. Jessie immediately took over the day-to-day operations of the company from her father and learned immeasurable skills during this time.

Shortly after the passing of her mother, Jessie and the company suffered another great loss as Randy passed away unexpectedly. She was quickly thrust into the role of company owner. Today, we carry on the tradition of hard work and unsurpassed commitment to property management set by Randy Phillips. Such dedication and a true sense of investment into the Nashville community truly sets Volunteer Properties above the rest.

Volunteer Properties is a proud member of several associations, including Tennessee Apartment Association, Greater Nashville Apartment Association, the National Apartment Association, and the Institute of Real Estate Management.
